body redundancy lineage

I talked to a person in my dream who was physically of a type that I know though the particulars I think I invented. how do you describe a type? my impression is that there are many more divisions and orders of regularity than we use in common. freckles! (possible investigation into classical conceptions, complexio, etc. maybe in relation to classical color terms, red/gold etc) Prediction of nipple's appearance, ?a good example because it is kept covered. surprise? surprise at someone's teeth? not sure if teeth enter into my conception of the types,  but bones do certainly, one's frame.

woke up with a word from the dream in mind VESPICA, with a visual impression as a product name in bold sans somewhat compressed horizontally, though after typing it, it seems to be lacking a letter. Ezra and I share his occasional impressions that the face a word is set in will make it appear to be spelled incorrectly

[in Star Trek TNG an episode often has parallel narratives, not in contact, but producing an impression of overall formalism and meaning. we speak this way too]

the person, of type HILARY, worked at the store that sold VESPICA, much like home depot, [ah, it seems spelled well now, in this relation to Hilary, if all on one line] much temporary/not-temporary plywood with hasps and padlocks (?as in back rooms of some supermarkets), circular shape to check out area (?after exploratorium), widdershins circulation, my confused wasting of time, waiting in line after line, to discover what I thought was one long line was several, etc etc. out of line and back in. wandering off saw worker Hilary pretending to hang herself with products from the shelves, a new very white nylon rope, still bundled, a metal hook with spring stays, maybe from a block and tackle? up on a stool. talked to her and understood she was just playing, but still why play at that, and she had maybe twisted her neck a bit. I felt her right shoulder which had one of the biggest knots I'd ever felt, I naturally took to kneading it, but just once as she winced a bit I momentarily reflected that I might be being a bit forward. I think I said "wow you're pretty messed up!" to somehow ease the tension and let it be ok, which worked somehow (must have been my tone, because I then momentarily reflected that it's actually a strange and not necessarily nice thing to say) she pointed to her left lower back (then I realized slowly while feeling it that her torso was the wrong way around, that she was facing me with her back). some how I took my leave of her to get back in line carrying my trivial item (yellow plastic like my cheerios day container) and passed an aisle ad for VESPICA on the way.
Respighi's "Pini presso una catacomba" accompaniment for replacing my desk in it's home position over the indigos (it's been on the road with me). first and most naturally with Seiji Ozawa's version conducting the BSO on Deutsche Grammophon (2530 890), then listened to the same on Angel 134443 (Muti conducting Philadelphia orchestra) and Everest 3436 (Horvat conducting Zagreb philharmonic orchestra).. both a bit dumb sounding after Ozawa.. I remember two other versions I didn't have to hand, but already with these three I had a lot of fun. it's been a long time since I got into this, but mostly the records are there on the shelf: the few hits I always picked up when I saw a version cheap: Grand Canyon Suite, Holst's Planets, etc... in retrospect I must have been interested in that low range of the orchestra, and the sort of haze of recording it. maybe that's where also variations in feel is easiest for me to detect?  opening of Tannhauser at Bayreuth LP, the haze of shepard's flute and a muffled cough from the audience

blindfold coming of age present

one technique, employed on blocks, of organizing in my room
is to think how I would do it if I were blind, and with the blindfold test and check, test and check,
to think of overall forms for blind use and to build up areas that can be used blind. still starting out!

blinds over certain drawers, a slit black cloth hands can go in easily. like the door top curtains seen in Japanese public houses I imagine. reading Nō plays, often people are walking travelling on the road, and it is said travellers who spend a night under the same tree or who share water will be friends in the next life.
Who all we forget. to renew an old excerise I didn't do enough of back when I thought of it (~8 years ago! after hearing about Disko Bob's private shrine) visualize everyone I know at a spring garden party together, making a souvenir photograph towards the end. friends of the blind, that we don't see them when they're away.
the records on the shelf are attracting my attention, how to address them. thinking of black paper pleated to form a blind surface to represent them, just to remember the little step I have taken. (? pleating machine diversion)
hopeful dreaming of certain projects given over to the domain of blindfolded work. a product developed entirely sightlessly. assembly-language-crystal formation tool, perhaps. other ideas.
what comes entirely from my mind? distancing from building of tools for ourselves. I would believe if I was told "No, these are not so personal questions at all, we have a science and teaching of it, come"

--
I should say a same question has to do with forgetfulness. moment to moment I have forgotten who I know or the Strapping Fieldhands 10"s that are on the shelf. (story of a friend who in temporary short term amnesia lost the fact that he had broken up with his girlfriend, when she visited to see how he was recovering, he was surprised to hear it and "oh why?" :"I don't know")

this particular set of wonders right now of mine, though formed from long in development elements, I will have turned away from sometime too. If you call me now, if you call me later.

last cables

Few nights ago ended by playing with Ezra a late Buchla 200 system, very advanced and full, but we had only a few patch cords. it had in it a -1606 MArF, where we started, just to see if it went at all. first stop kick drum sequence, to settle down and be influenced by Ezra's presence and the atlantean curves of Don's case design--
courtly high guitar pinch harmonic, the kick in what Ezra reported was 7, but I only knew was in 1-1-1, mysterious patterning of the kick timbre by ramp of length commensurable with one time interval but not another, heard in echos. at home also I use only very few cables, letting them be rare for times, to make everything coming from one area or interaction. What we balled up to sleep to that night used two oscillators, but only one MarF output, to those could have been perhaps multiplexed or 'multiplexed' some way which inheres. I have certainly heard similar dispositions of the orchestra coming from one oscillator, a kick, flagolet melodies, swaying background curtains. and even the tunes and pattern which I that night dictated I have heard coming on their own from energy pushed through fm loops into lower and lower frequencies, for example.
A face back of my interest is the disarmed or removed, eddying story that in a later age, person (me) whose practice moved following lateness.

courtly refinement in aesthetic suspension
approach with cables in left hand, feel of cables and walk. at home I approach always in lying position to scattered units, here there was more formality. study at juncture may be a way finally to build a polished 'system' for myself, while also, this morning I admired the silkscreened rings around the mounting holes of my 259 panel, having never been mounted anywhere, and thought of the deco plastic bits I have seen used to mount mirrors, etc.

A Second Favorite

Isn't it nice to have a second favorite thing that perhaps can cast a light on your favorite?
Yesterday, after preamble (preamble is also very nice to have), I did not go past the exploratorium's 1DOF-inverted-pendulum (IP). many things can happen there. and when it was time for breaks there was a observation area below for watching other arms at it. The second favorite had it- a 2-plane-symmetric bench bench on wheels actuated by a very reducing gear train leading from a little hand crank spindle set in the top of the bench breaking the usual bench symmetry but not the extra one, leading the way like a train's stack towards the balcony over which the balancing arms show.
(first guess, second guess; preamble, favorite, second favorite. at first guess the reduction ratio was something like 1000:1)

Last weekend I stopped at a public park to read and watch soccer. and as I usually do I watched by finding particular players to follow, people who move in a way, either I know about, as my own, or in a way I wanted to learn about. the first one that I started to follow, green number 7 in a multi-line font (with a hooked 7, which I haven't found yet), moved in someways like me. and after a while I was watching his team mate #10 also, who had something similar. (http://mikegrost.com/snumber.htm the other team had a #100 in a sleeker multi-line, red on yellow with black pinstripe) and I saw #7 hurt his knee, and like I did when I first hurt my knee after a while of hopping along and easing into it, he started playing again. I was watching very closely now. he seemed ok and I thought, 'oh, he's more resilient that I was, maybe this happens all the time to them.' but then in a little skirmish the same knee fell apart at a stupid time when it shouldn't have, just in a wrong light touch. and he went to the side and took off his shin covers. I remembered the way I had watched the game proceeding after I had stepped out of it. I hadn't been able to really watch well but now I could
While listening today a question came 'what do you expect to learn from the best musician in the world?' or 'what do you expect to gain?'

that might help with background: Was uncovering the other day my interior image of music made right at the edge of time, pressing into the face of time as if a pane of glass, just for the duration of playing, and then backing off afterwards. idea that listening back to this later we again press up against the face of time and meet the way before. (my recollection of the noise pancakes show with 6502 ASM-crystal and snare drum)
2nd- Idea of no-music-analyst-for. there's no analyst for engine sounds, none for dripping in certain exotic climes, etc. that we might at any time be confronted by phenomena that if we attended to would reveal as much as (say, Tenney Spectral Canon for stupid example)

a short page written while with Will Sherwin says:
IN THE FUTURE EVERYONE HAS HOUSES, AND IN EVERY HOUSE, WHICH IS LIKE YOURS IN A WAY, THERE ARE ALL DIFFERENT KINDS OF ROOMS. LIKE YOU HAVE- BEDROOM, BATHROOM, LIVING ROOM, KITCHEN.. WELL ACTUALLY WHAT THEY CALL A BATHROOM AND WHAT YOU CALL A BATHROOM WELL-- IT'S JUST REALLY DIFFERENT-- THERE ARE ALL SORTS OF CHAMBERS AND STUFF, ABLE TO SIMULATE ANY WEATHER-ENVIRONMENTAL-CONDITION, FORCES ON YOUR BODY, AND SO ON. AND - THEY HAVE A SPECIAL MUSIC ROOM. EVERYONE HAS THIS. EVERY HOUSE HAS A SPECIAL MUSIC ROOM AND THIS ROOM CAN MAKE ANY KIND OF SOUND
SO YOU GO TO THE FUTURE AND THEY SAY- OH! WELL WE'VE BEEN EXPECTING YOU! AND THEY SAY- OK, WE KNOW YOU'VE GOT ONE HOUR HERE IN THE FUTURE, AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT MESSING UP YOUR BIRTH-REALITY OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT, WE'VE TAKEN CARE OF ALL THAT- WE'VE FIGURED OUT THAT WE HAVE TO GIVE YOU THE GIFT OF JUST ONE HOUR IN THE MUSIC ROOM, AND AFTER THAT YOU'LL BE BACK IN YOUR OWN TIME. SO YOU GO IN THERE AND WHAT DO YOU THINK?

and at the bottom of the sheet there's a drawing of something like a piano pedal in yellow paint pen right across the bottom, with the words ENERGY TRANSFER written inside nicely with red traffik crayon and towards the bulb of the pedal the letters get somewhat jumbled or more active or excited, and written in a thinner freer hand.

Katie Hannon showed me a place in the sidewalk that looks like Africa on her walk home from elementary school which I still try to visit. Have seen many public notices of things nobody made looking like things we see on maps (122 + 80 comments on Frank Jacobs' Strange Maps, for example). [compare to the initially-suppressed obvious question to Ezra Buchla after hearing his very direct and literal sonification of cubic map iterations: 'how come it sounds like a modem?']

Some of the nicest things I've learned since drawing cracks and fractures, leaf venations, bubbles and maps as a kid were from Cyril Stanley Smith's Search for Structure, where he explains very nicely how each line likes to meet the others at certain fixed angles which depend on the medium. In the days immediately following that lesson I saw much commercial signage with cracking letters and learned to decode the stress-relieving patterns in my own way. For those weeks our letters became mostly patterns of tense places and places where the tension could one day escape.

This morning I asked my dad "What's a process that effects islands preferentially?" and he said "what do you mean, like erosion?" so I thought he knew what I meant, as well as I did anyways, because that was exactly the sort of picture I had in mind when I asked: running bandpass convolutions on world maps data, leaving only islands and rivers, for example, and trying to imagine what physical process could do the same things, dreaming up imaginary sea water chemical reactions

Haven't Written That I Eat Trash

Most who know me: well enough? met me young enough?
Most who've been in my company long enough (?)(in public, or at nights, or for long stretches?) know already that I eat trash.
[I'd like to carry forward from this moment the form of limbs of the distribution (leopard spots sparkles! coral!) of the clusters that knew. for future study maybe, or just to look at in the specimen case.]
It's hidden by me, ?disgust politely acquiesced to. perhaps.
but why should I hide? and why Never mentioned?
(I matching with Never, when hiding a tonality makes the losing of one)

THERE ARE MANY MANY things to say here. which way to go first - may erase the other possibilities, as sometimes when composing music.
no direction for now is enough

just recently reading Samuel Delany interviews and literary criticism, I could see some shape of his coming to write a bit closer his own once-hidden things. and recalled wondering about his interpolation of a disgust-at-trash-eating into all The Mad Man's tasting, wondering if it was 'merely' a device, or somehow a revelation of personal world-limiting utterity ('absolution'), (and barely/nearly/lightly thinking 'what could you know about that then?' echoed in his glance at LeGuin's nail-biting in To Read The Dispossessed's "those of us...").

"she always understood all the things we told her about..." (Screeching Weasel's Kathy Isn't Right)
"so serious about the stuff we like!" (Minor Threat, Salad Days, but perhaps he actually says "stuff we lack"! so I'll be the first to say it: "so serious about the stuff we like!" Has been a favorite line of mine since I heard it, and conjures an attractive cognition. for example a mom approaching a fusilli display at trader joe's with her 8 or so year old kid, asking "him should we try this kind?". silence of course, but also soft faced (not sad) down staring. The meaning of GRIM. mom says "ok, we'll just get bowties ok? we'll get the bowties you like")

Using Optima a lot these days, in mind because (as far as I know): my 1968 best of SIMULATION magazine compilation is set in it, so is A˙BACUS #80 (Feb, 1984)- Rosemary Waldrop's Cornered Stones Split Infinities. The A˙BACUS flag is set in Face Photosetting's Stack, which was surely available as Letraset dry transfers by the time they started. can a metronome know things like that?
to my friend Eric King with whom I've often discussed the 'foggy clock', and I think often disappointed by not doing anything about it, (and to many others:) I see now- when a child is happy watching a grown up do something for themselves, privately, which the child can also approximate, bouncing a ball, hammering, stirring some batter, any number of things. the grown-up may look up and notice their audience, and call the child over and say 'here you wanna try?', and either the kid says no smiling a big smile, or allows the adult to sort of put the spoon in her hand, and the child just perfunctorily wobbles her hand a little , still not much distracted from the beatific contemplation, still smiling up at the adult, who still doesn't know whats happened

lycanthropic human

Yesterday unfiled the left-over postcards Will Sherwin made and self-addressed for me, to get me to write him while he was up in Tasajara for his last long stay. Some had a few lines I don't remember writing, one that struck me: A PERSON THINKS THEY ARE GOOD. MAYBE THEY WILL HAVE A DREAM WHERE THEIR ACTIONS, PERFORMED ON THE CLOSE SIDE OF THE LINE DIVIDING GOOD AND BAD, ARE MOCKINGLY ANALOGIZED BACK TO THEM BY ACTIONS THEY WOULD PLACE AS EVIL. (5/23/04) on most of the postcards Will had cut out things from magazines and pasted them on the picture side, or done drawings etc. This one has a pale deep sea creature with a big gaping toothy mouth, an unhinged jaw. I wonder if he did this on purpose in relation to his dreams of evil snakes. and once an arctic snake, white fur aquatic killer. and did I choose to write that particular thing on that particular card? I don't think I had so fine control in those days

Then last night, visited Lyal's housewarming party. and practically first thing as I got there he asks me about banshee kitty and if I think leaving her locked in her room for the party was a good idea, instead of having her freaked out by all the new people. I said yeah
later I went in to visit her and found a mess of stoners in a cloud of smoke. banshee sitting in a basket in the closet. played with her a bit and tried to connect with her deep calm (all speeds).. concerned about her situation, not wanting her consciousness altered against her will and ability to refuse or control. I asked celebrants and finally Lyal. everyone had a different take on it, but all unwilling or unable to enter into the depth of true possibility

How Deep Is Our Stack1?

two weeks ago passed over an email question that I didn't have anything for, but spontaneously yesterday or the day before while driving thoughts and second thought oh, suitable reply. left it again, until this morning

part awake, reasoning, but on premises continued from this morning's dream, different endings, film editor- a joke was putting a lavender bath robe on one of the news anchors. long solution I was proud of finding, excited by the possibilities of, was to tape on to the bottom third or fourth or so with clear packing tape a particular type of clean black debris- old headphones, for example, but slightly less literal (too many highlights, reflections) constant density of these shapes, as if scrolling, along the bottom, throughout the end section at least. one solution for all- I'm calling a 'long solution' (maybe like 'all along').
[feels a little like interests in intensity change automation (for example, cassette tape dropouts, lengthening fade outs, momentary lights dimming when the refrigerator turns on). Was playing with a Buchla 291e last night for the first time in a year or so. I think that might have been where I was driving to, to borrow a power supply]

Was reasoning like that for some time. finally other set of premises appearing over several long-thought?-moments, but I rolled on my side and open up my computer to to them. Remember being quite old, ?17,18 when I first saw clearly other peoples' morning discomforts, friend Max Seeger having to put his 'brain back together' almost every morning. a culture of that when living with his family I hadn't seen. morning newspaper etc.. I'd never thought of that!

new motivation for collectors from depeche mode

so I'll collect records from italy..
imagination of seeing a collection of VML Live records
reminds me, in a time of listening to depeche mode 12" singles, that I formed the imagination of a will to see a collection of 12" 45s with a certain kind of kick drum mixed through them, a particular situation of clear sounds, and a complete band arising from that desire. to make a collection, say 20, the first few must be successful enough to fund the ones to follow. it's a certain kind of collection that has other copies of it's elements scattered about, but the collection itself is one of the few places where all the members are together and specially cared for. a pop band is the way to make that. (other ways?)
desire to see a cool collection of special sounds

comics music q2

around the age of 13 I bought a comic book. B&W, glossy color cover, probably self-published. bikini/pinup style cover. flat empty artwork with occasional grey ?watercolor washes. often backgroundless panels, US, weird combination of manga and architectural rendering. detailed focus on a few objects, guns, for example drawn carefully enough for the model to be identified, if I do not exaggerate my recollection. and the rest expanses of white-- in the 'plot' too. can't find a title now, the first place I ever heard the pixies.

over the carefully delineated yacht's sound system came 'drive my car into the ocean' 'I sail away on waves of mutilation'. I somehow guessed the tune correctly! well the phrase ends, at least. I don't think I got the backbeat harmony rise. I sang it to myself several times, and savored it!
occasionally I'd remember that tune I'd supposed with the words later, and if in public, once, at a party I remember clearly, in a kitchen (6, 7 years later!), I would still sing what I'd thought was the tune-- a little scared, knowing I'd made it up, but also strangely confident in my surmise. intentionally giving some uncertainty-harmonic-character to the pitches. this has become part of my voice quality. 'true voice'. still wonder what Chris Cohen heard in my voice that made him imagine a part for me in his 'invisible string'.

my mysterious conception of the tune wasn't controverted until I finally heard a recording, basically unbidden, only 3 years ago. turned loose on Discka Bob's stash for a week, I copied a few pixies shows along with a mass of other material. no metadata beyond show place and time noted on the CDs themselves. Wading through that, I've only listened to it fully once, and otherwise, a handful of times. it's a bit too precious to look at directly the tenebr

WHAT'S THIS CALLED #3?

What do you call pieces of wood cut expressly to fit in the slides of sliding windows and doors keeping them from opening? Or maybe allowing them to open just a certain amount and no more, or even better, pairs of sticks, one for complete closure, and one for cat-width opening.

Cheeks and Heels

It's Not Enough true
a while ago read in Tinbergen and Kuenen 1938 "In addition, the possible formation of positive associations was avoided by continuous alteration of the stimuli. When a negative result was obtained, we always presented, as controls, stimuli known to be very effective. As we were concerned only with qualitative analysis, we did not feel it necessary to standardize the control stimulus too precisely." and remembered Abramović's Rhythm 10.

In Legge's introduction to his translation of the I Ching he tries to make the Lo look like nothing but the 3x3 magic square. But obviously, it isn't! The numbers are differentiated into two groups, and in such a way as to suggest that they should retain that difference even when collected into sets of 3 (as the consistent sums of 15 suggest).
As shown, there's no need to stop at the given division into odd and even numbers either, others give us interesting distributions, too. Nor to select just one division, after all, Legge's flat representation contains all possible divisions superimposed.
Going from essences to recipies, tuning the distribution of rules to align ourselves with the raw material, like a generalized video vector scope that doesn't know yet what PAL or NTSC is, as it's tuned in it's demodulation and subsequent recombination, it's learning a national language. Or perhaps more like astrology, as it provides a variable basic machinery by which to demodulate the single number 'time' into essences which then we recombine, hoping to learn the national language enough to say hello, or goodbye.

looking now at balancing divisions of magic squares of eighth order. [have also recently discovered a way to treat nonweighted codes (Gray code, for example) as 'weighted' by multiplying coefficients]

Do you air-reed squeal outs on bottles like I do?
Francis Holland first showed me this years ago, then as now being I think more familiar with bottles than I. Perhaps from his wet hand descriptions I maintain an image with my squeals of a licked Egyptian eye (he'd told me it's the way a Ney sings, and somehow, I'd seen, or had pantomimed to me a harelipped ?hare-palate, wet sound Egyptian, with bore entirely in his mouth) in geometrical reduction. (truly geometric; that is, platonic, down to the shine)

not yet done enough to form conclusions, but yes to see it may be possible. /directions on the endless bed.

At least we can still search the GoogleAnswers archive, which is all I ever did anyways, being more basically in need of questions than answers. One special request I remember, but have now misplaced, was for the name of the standard work on Chinese history. This called out a pretty snake-full of ideas on standard works generally, which I can't decide slithered only through my private imaginings or in public view.

I'd like a list of standard works.

Mineshaft zCesspit

brought up to full consciousness (not that that's that important, but it is my business here) just now, after the shower ends, and the column of water is released through the faucet I like to have the side of leg in proximity to receive the gush, since my teens. If recently connected it to the Delany's passage in The Mad Man in the Mineshaft wherein the stranger approaches and says something like "How does it feel to be in a place where anyone might just walk up and start pissing down yo leg?" and find myself looking for the direct wording when the moment approaches. And that it's a totally different interest of mine when the sound of the gush much delayed comes out of the bathroom to the bed where I'm lying having forgotten entirely about it.

is it the Mineshaft? some name like this.

Delight in collecting materials to show a few friends Carrom, like my dad showed me. A new carrom-powder: 'anti-offset' from the world of printers [visits to David Lance Goines' place after the neighboring rock shop had closed; his kind present to me (that I think I later cut up in trying to understand it, now see it would have been worth hundreds of deserts today), his present reminding of the Davis garage sale Mucha print I had as a kid framed under dusty glass][it occurs to me just now, a note for future investigation: perhaps a wine collection of bottles only labeled with Goines' designs would give me a forgetting of what a bottle of wine without him looks like. a new motivation for collectors]

I want to see the cover of Embrace Of Thorns's ...For I See Death In Their Eyes... a bit more clearly. I think I saw a big scan on the NWN forums once. Is it Chris Moyen? He's all pen, but still a little part of it. Of the more photographic of the covers, who's doing them? I imagine a culture of it quite sophisticated in areas I'm examining myself right now.

And all these symmetric looking logos make me think of scottkim.com/inversions and the sorts of things he describes learning about letter shapes by working on the inversions so that he can look at a band name and say 'oh, that's a good one!' I wonder if that's happened for black metal logo drawers, and what special sorts of things they know. might do to ask Master's Hammer:
